Henry C. Phelps
.

The Henry C. Phelps you see in the picture is the grandfather of my dad who is Henry C. Phelps lll. The picture is taken out of the article in the 1906 Cape Girardeau City Directory. The editor saw fit to HIGHLY commend him for his generous spirit. For the article story, click HERE. The story is interesting and worth reading. Included is a picture of the hotel he built on the edge of the Mississippi River named Terminal Hotel. It was a high rise for the times and for the area, also considered to be quite contemporary.

Peder A. Johnsen, right, is my mother's father. He immigrated to the USA in 1910 from Norway (which explains our mother's name of Gerda), coming in through Ellis Island . This picture was taken by his local newspaper in honor of celebrating his 100th birthday in 1988. Family and friends traveled from near and far to attend his 100th birthday celebration. We have always called him Grandpapa. His Norwegian roots and immigration into this country is just a part of his rich contribution to our family. We will forever cherish the great memories we all have of Grandmother & Grandpapa and the times we were privileged to have with them. See Peder A. Johnsen
